Marcie Warner, Southern Shores Realty’s CPA, courteously celebrated her birthday yesterday with the entire office. For years now, she has prepared her infamous “Charlie Red Hots.” A dish of bun, hotdog, and delicious chili! I’d share the chilli recipe with you; however, Marcie is claiming it’s a secret. (So hopefully we can get it out of her, possibility sometime in the future!)

Any who, we’d like to say Thanks to Marcie for being so generous on her very on 47th birthday. It was a tasty, fun afternoon! Happy Birthday, Marcie!

Shout out to our owners | Travel OBX Informed

Let me just start off with this… we have awesome owners in our program! Not only are they very cooperative, but they are sweet, kind, supportive, loving, and most of all they absolutely adore their renters, to say the least. I want to use this blog post as a SHOUT OUT to our beloved owners. What would we do with them? They make up exactly who we are, property managers.

Elmer & Sarah Smith, owners of the Beachcomber Daze rental, provided our entire staff with a lovely lunch from High Cotton BBQ (one of our favorites!) When I approached Sarah, and asked what the luncheon was for she stated “Just because…” (A smile quickly came across my face, and I could hardly wait to start blogging about it.) They have recently finished renovating their cozy home after a horrid tornado destroyed the front half of the house last year. BTW, it looks great! Not your average vacation rental; it’s literally a home, and feels like one too. Warm, open, relaxing, and neutral. Did I mention it was cozy as well? (Now that’s a vacation in itself!) If it were me renting this lovely home nestled into the Four Seasons community, I’d probably forget the beach was literally seconds away.

Happy Fat Tuesday & Birthday to Patrina | Around the Office

Around the office is a section of our blog highlighting activities around the Southern Shores Realty Rental & Sales Office. Happy Birthdays, get togethers, pop ins from some of owners along with tenants, and Holiday parties are only the beginning. You never know what might be going on around our friendly, up beat, building located in Southern Shores, North Carolina!

Today, February 21, 2012, we have two reasons to celebrate, better yet, we have two excuses to indulge in sugar. Not only is it Mrs. Patrina’s Birthday, but it’s also Fat Tuesday! We gave a Big Happy Birthday to Patrina, one of our rental managers, with tubs of ice cream, toppings, and a festive cheese danish! How will you enjoy your Fat Tuesday? We suggest a big tub of Cookie Monster ice cream, great for kids and very comforting ; )

Have you been to the Coastal Provisions Market?

The delicious, elegant yet casual Coastal Provisions Market catered to our lovely reservation staff last week after hours. This one-of-a-kind market has transformed into a tasty wine bar on one side of the store, and wanted to give our hard working ladies a treat for what they do. As well as giving them the experience that they would share with you, your friends, and your family.

The dinner was amazing, and we got so much more than we were expecting. With 6 different wines to taste, and a dish to go with each, we now know that Dan & Scott, the owners, our the experts when it comes to customer service. Kudos to you, Coastal Provisions!

This restaurant is located directly behind our rental office (where you check-in) making it easy to access on summer weekends when the traffic is heavy. For example, people ask our staff for recommendations on where to eat, what to do, and where to go while they wait to check in which isn’t until 4 p.m. We already have a post discussing what you can do to make your check-in process easier while you wait. However, we haven’t mentioned where you should grab a bite to eat. Well, this is a place you want to go while you wait to check-in to your Outer Banks Vacation Rental. They provide great customer service, and high quality food. Just park your vehicle at our office, and walk around to the back to reach the Southern Shores Crossing where they are located. Last year Coastal Provisions built an outside bar so you can enjoy the sun while you have some lunch with them.

Scott, co-owner, even mentioned something that really hit me. He said “The guests that travel to our area have most likely visited before or know someone else who has. With that being said, they usually have an idea of where they like to grab quick lunches, and have a nice dinner. People are hesitant when it comes to switching up their usual OBX  stops.” This makes sense, but I personally want to encourage you to get a true taste of our entire beach. Each restaurant does a fantastic job, and they all offer something different in their own unique way. To go beyond your OBX elements, try different places each time you visit us. It’s the only way to really get that week of OBX lifestyles you are looking for. Especially Coastal Provisions for they constantly keep you in mind, are innovative, and have already made lots of changes for the upcoming season.

We need your help for our Gingerbread House Contest!

The Southern Shores Realty office got together last night after closing to decorate some Gingerbread houses with BJ’S Carolina Cafe in Jarvisburg, North Carolina (10 minutes N. of the Wright Brother Memorial Bridge.) All Proceeds go towards the local Juvenile Diabetes Association. Have you ever created one? If you haven’t, you should consider it. I mean it put us right in the Christmas mood with a plus of bonding and team work. It’s a great way to get your family together for some fun, engaging, quality time. Especially if you can’t be at the beach ;)
Remember our Halloween Pumpkin decorating contest we held for you back in October? Well it’s that time again! Except with Gingebread houses, of course :) We are asking for your help. If you would head over to our Facebook Page, and vote for your favorite decorated Gingerbread House by a few of Southern Shores Realty’s staff it would be extremely appreciated. Hey, let the kids help you out! They would really love this contest. The winner that you choose will win a few Gift Certificates to restaurants on the Outer Banks. HAVE FUN!

FAN’S FAVORITE OUTER BANKS PUMPKIN CONTEST!

Is it really the end of October ALREADY?  When your at the beach having the time of your life, time sure does tend to fly by! We can’t believe that Halloween is next Monday; although, our office is extremely excited to celebrate this FEARtastic holiday starting today! Southern Shores Realty’s innovative staff has been very busy this week coming up with creative ways to decorate a pumpkin for our 2nd annual in house pumpkin decorating contest. This year we need your help!

FAN’S FAVORITE PUMPKIN!

Help us choose the most creative, creepy, or festive pumpkin by VOTING on our Facebook channel. “LIKE” your favorite pumpkin, and we will present the fans favorite pumpkin on Halloween at 3:00 p.m. We have excellent entries this year so jump right into our office festivities with us; we would love to know everyone’s favorite! Which one catches your attention the most? Does any of them scare you? What pumpkin would you like to show off?

You could even let the kids help you vote! They will love it.

Outer Banks Boarding Company, a local favorite!

The Outer Banks Boarding Company, known as OBBC to the locals, is a CLASSIC surf shop on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and a Southern Shores Realty FAVORITE. OBBC provides all of your “surf” needs including all types of boards, accessories, wet suits, apparel, watches, sun glasses, and of course sunscreen. They also hold the well known farmdog surf school were you can pick up sweet surfing skills from the Outer Banks experts. They offer lessons for all ages whether you are a beginner, or at a intermediate level.

OBX residents LOVE this surf shop! Did I already mention that?

Surf shops are just second nature to us. We want the best top of the line products when it comes to our sun & waves at a decent price that is, and a lot of variety to choose from. OBBC brings us just that with some perks like how easy it is to get around the shop to find just what you are looking for! Another great perk about the Outer Banks Boarding Company is that they offer a knarly online store where you are able to locate just about anything they sale in store, plus more. This is also great for the OBX lovers who dig the beach style, but are not in town. The online store features their top selling products, new products, and you can shop your favorite brands right from the home page (pretty neat.) So the next time your in town stop by OBBC located in Nags Head, NC, or if you just feel that beach mood creeping up on you visit their online store!

Outer Banks Restaurant Picks Continued

Barefoot Bernies- This tropical grill and bar, located at milepost 4.5, is a fun place for the whole family! Southern Shores Realty picks Barefoot Bernies for their Gourmet Pizza’s, and yummy appetizers. The menu varies from pastas to seafood to delicious steaks. There is no doubt that everyone will have a great time while dining at this tropical restaurant, but do not wait all afternoon for it does get busy early! Definitely worth the wait though if you get there a bit late. Bernie’s also has live music throughout the week.

 

 

 

 

Duck Donuts- Southern Shores Realty chose Duck Donuts, because they deliver free samples to our office every Saturday and Sunday morning for our guests! Located in Duck, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Corolla. They create their donuts from scratch, with a special combination; “Warm, delicious, and made to order” is Duck Donuts way! Also try a cup of their locally roasted premium “Kill Devil Hills” coffee for a morning mouthful of delight!

 

 

 

 

 

Good Life Gourmet- Good Life Gourmet, located at milepost 4.5, has such a large selection that it is just perfect for OBX vacationers. If you are the average family, where no one wants to eat the same thing, then this is the pick for you. The Good Life opens daily with a full breakfast menu, take-out and boxed lunches, wonderful bakery, and fresh deli for the sandwich lovers out there. Also, they have a wide variety of bistro selections, and SSR favorite thing about Good Life Gourmet is their new pasta nights on Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights from 5-9!

 

 

 

High Cotton BBQ- High Cotton BBQ is a favorite lunch spot for the  Southern Shores Realty Staff. We often use High Cotton BBQ for luncheons at the office for special occasions; so it is definitely on our favorites list! High Cotton gives you a nice southern feel when you walk in, and is known for its Barbeque, Fried Chicken, and ribs. They cook with consistent temperatures along with long hour cooking with hickory coals. Grab a glass of the sweetest sweet tea here, and appreciate the south!

 

 

Pizza Stop- We adore Pizza Stop not only for their delicious NY authentic style pizza, but also because it is practically right next door! So while checking in at Southern Shores Realty you can grab the family a pizza to finish up the long travel. Pizza Stop delivers for free, and also delivers ice cold beer. They hand toss the dough, and prepare their own sauce, then cook your order on a stone deck oven, VERY delicious! Located at milepost 1, right across from Home Depot.

 

 

 

 

 

Coastal Provisions- Coastal Provisions is also a neighbor of Southern Shores Realty which again is why we love going here for lunch! Also, for their BOGO Monday nights when they offer a buy one plate to go and get a plate for free. Coastal Provisions has their very own full service butcher, fresh seafood, seasonal produce, chef-pampered foods, specialty cheese, and wine & dine. They have such a great variety that you can either shop from or eat it in. Coastal Provisions also provides a catering service for your large occasions, and live music throughout the week for customers to enjoy! Located at milepost 1 in Southern Shores Crossing.

 

 

 

Tomato Patch- Tomato Patch is a family style restaurant, located in Corolla, NC. Southern Shores Realty appreciates Tomato Patch for it’s quick and friendly service. They offer variety in their menu including great pizza, pasta dishes, cold subs, and selective seafood. Kids may also create their own pizza pans with all ingredients included on Thursday nights, “kids night.” Tomato Patch stays open 7 days a week until 11 p.m during the summer months!

Outer Banks Restaurant Picks

Our staff would like to recommend some restaurants that we prefer on a regular basis. The following are our FAVORITE restaurants to dine at with families and friends. There are tons of great restaurants throughout the entire Outer Banks, but the picks below are hot spots that we can’t seem to get enough of!

Kill Devil Grill- This restaurant has a unique and fun atmosphere along with excellent food. Our Vacation Specialists can not get enough of their BBQ chicken salad with added goat cheese! You will not be disappointed with the friendly staff. Located at milepost 9 3/4 on the Beach Road.

 

 

 

 

 

Blue Moon Beach Grill - We adore the attentive service at this grill. They offer good southern comfort food with a creative twist. We recommend trying the fresh fried calamari or the shrimp’ n grits. Located at milepost 13 in the Surf Side Plaza in Nags Head.

 

 

 

Run Down Cafe- This fun, beach-like restaurant provides great service, especially if you are in a hurry. They provide the best fries on the Outer Banks, fantastic Tsunami Salads, and a delicious queso dip! Located at the North end of the Beach Road, across from The Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Black Pelican- This restaurant, at MP 4 on the Beach Road, is full of character. Its oceanfront views from either the dining room or outside deck, will capture you the moment you walk up the stairs. Our office loves the fresh, local clams along with the chicken salad for a delicious, filling lunch. The best thing about Black Pelican is that you can bring the entire family, and everyone can choose a meal they like off of the diverse menu!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mama Kwans- Known as “Kwans” to the locals. You will never be disappointed with the awesome staff, who are super friendly, at this grill and tiki bar. We suggest the blackened fish tacos with tuna or shrimp, garbage plate, or the yummy special occasion pasta dish. They also hold DJ night on Thursdays! Located at milepost 10 on the Bypass in Kill Devil Hills.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

JK’S- This fine dining establishment is not only an office favorite but an Outer Banks Favorite over all. It offers delicious steaks and chicken cooked on a live wood fired grill. Their beef comes exclusively from the Midwest; the menu changes nightly so every dine-in experience is different. Our office suggests the full quail for an appetizer, and a rack of their dry rubbed ribs and/or pasta dish for an entree. This is a restaurant that you are sure to enjoy. Another great thing about JK’s is that you are guaranteed fresh daily picked vegetables out of their secret garden located in Currituck, NC. Serving the Outer Banks from two locations: milepost 9.5, on the Bypass in Kill Devil Hills, and Corolla in the Monteray Plaza, next to Food Lion.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mako Mikes- Definitely an office favorite for its family fun dining experience. You will be shocked with amazement from the second you walk in the doors. It has an aquatic/shark theme and is filled with colorful decor, and wall murals, and a gift shop for you to browse through. With a little bit of everything on the menu (including Chicken, Seafood, Steaks, and Pizza), and the ocean like interior, your family is sure to enjoy this restaurant.
